    Emotional Cutoff

    Homework:

    • Think about what you wish to share with the group during Check-In. You'll have about 15 minutes. What have you been thinking about for the past month? How has family systems thinking influenced your relationships?

    • Watch how emotional cutoff functions in your family of origin and extended family during the holidays.

    Nuclear Family Emotional Process

    Homework:

    • Learn about Nuclear Family Emotional Process from the Bowen Center. 
    • Watch Period of Adjustment, a 1960 play by Tennessee Williams that was adapted in the film version of 1962.  On YouTube:  Period of Adjustment (1962 - for only $2.99!  It's a Christmas movie that you'll enjoy!) 
    • Read the Nuclear Family Emotional System and Family Projection Process in Tennessee Williams’s Period of Adjustment, on the American Studies Journal website.  If you'd like to download it, I've saved it as a pdf.
    • Consider preparing a Case Presentation ahead of time and letting Tim know. Bring 6 copies to distribute for your presentation and collect following the presentation.

    • In this video Host Allen Blakey interviews Patricia Comella, JD, PA, and faculty member of the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family. Bowen theory can be used to understand many types of relationships including in the workplace.
